Palau Ubin (otherwise known as Granite Island) has fewer than 50 residents, as most people left in the 1970s when jobs ran out due to the closing of the granite quarries. A visit to this island takes you back to how Singapore was when most residents left, as people live in wooden huts and the vehicles are a bit outdated. But what the island lack in modernity, it makes up for in nature, particularly the Chek Jawa Wetlands, where six natural ecosystems meet.
