The capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, has been under both Persian and Russian rule. These influences are expressed in the architecture. For example, the Sulfur Baths and Maidan Bazaar very much exemplify Middle Eastern influences. At the same time, the Holy Trinity Cathedral is the largest Orthodox church in Georgia, and its golden dome can be seen far and wide. These are all found in the Old Town, also known for its wooden balconies and cobblestone streets. Overlooking everything is the ancient fortress of Narikala, which dates back to the 4th century. Georgia's old and modern history can be seen in the Georgian National Museum. The ultra modern Bridge of Peace connects the older part of the city with the more modern part.
